First, the plane ride was as good as a 4 hour and 45 minute flight can be. We arrived in San José late at night. We were introduced to Costa Rican cuisine ... at McDonalds. But don't worry our diets have long since improved. We stayed at the hostel, which was different than we expected. There were four bunk beds to a room, a sheet, pillow, and a small blanket on each bed. From there we slept, until 4 am. We had until 4:30 to get out the door and on our way to catch the second plane. That plane got delayed due to weather and the airport was actually was closed completely. While we waited for the weather to clear we all got into some good games of UNO. The fog lifted are our flight was back on. We walked out of the airport to see a beautifully painted plane, that only seated twenty. The flight was great until the end. The front few rows heard the robotic voice of the plane say, " pull up... pull up... too low.... pull up." We were all scared to death however a runway appeared from around the corner and all was good. From there we went to breakfast and had dish number one of rice and beans. In addition to the rice and beans we got eggs and fruit. There at the restaurant we also met our guides for the trip Walter and Rey. After, we took a boat to Puerto Jimenez. There we hoped into a truck with an open back for a hour and a half to get to OSA Conservation. But on our way, we had a blast singing as Rey and Anna played a ukulele despite the bumps in the road. And we also saw one of the four types of monkeys in Costa Rica. At Osa Conservation we were greeted with a warm welcome from the staff and volunteers. We then had to sit down for lunch which was our second dish of, you guessed it, rice and beans. After lunch we went on a hike. This hike took us to the beach, unfortunately we weren't able to swim in the ocean but we were able to swim in an inclosed inlet on the beach. We wore an attractive set of bathing suits and high socks. At the beach we watched the sun set. Once we returned home we were starving and sat down for dinner. We didn't have beans but we had rice with meat and boiled banana (which tasted like potatoes). After dinner, we had a learning session and now we are getting ready for bed because we are hiking at 4:30 tomorrow morning.
Love, Kelsey, Hannah, Grace and Anna P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NORA!!! We haven't found a toucan yet but we're still looking. |
